The play 'Crucible' by Arthur Miller is based on the true facts and events of 1692 in Salem Massachusetts. This play focuses on the inconsistencies of the Salem witch trials and how extreme behaviors can result from hidden agendas. In the play they act out all the major/main roles including Reverend Parris, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams, Tituba, the Putnam's and many more.
In this play you see many examples of how people will do whatever it takes to make themselves look innocent or to prove themselves and their loved ones innocent. For example, Abigail Williams tries to look like the 'good' person and plays victim throughout the play. "I-I know not. A wind, a cold wind, has come." [Miller, page 101] Here Abigail is trying to distract the court, so she remains innocent and won't be caught.
John Proctor, a Salem farmer and former lover of Abigail proves to the court that he is innocent when he tells about his secret affair that he had with Abigail Williams and ruins his good name that he had with the village. " A man will not cast away his good name. You surely know that." [Miller,Page 102]
